The ThinkPad T530 does not include any accessories and is supplied only with the power supply and the battery. However, Lenovo offers a wide range of optional accessories that we will describe here. Virtually all parts of the previous T520 series are compatible with the new ThinkPad T530 due to the same case. Other USB 3.0 accessories may be required. The ThinkPad T530 can be connected to two different docking stations through the integrated docking port below. Serial Port Replicator 3 is compatible with USB 3.0 and is available at a price of 110 euros (135 USD). This docking station does not add many additional ports and only offers three USB 2.0 ports, a USB 3.0 port, a VGA port and a Gigabit LAN port for desktop use.
The Mini Dock Plus Series 3 is also available for less than 230 euros ($ 280 US) and is also compatible with the USB 3.0 standard. This docking station offers the same functions as Port Replicator, as well as three additional USB 2.0 ports, two DVI ports, two DisplayPort connectors and two audio sockets for simultaneous use of headphones / speakers and microphones. Beyond the docking stations, a mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter is available. Given the VGA port built into the laptop, its usefulness seems quite limited. Third-party adapters may be required for other connectors such as DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort. While third-party adapters may not match the style, they could be considerably cheaper. The most notable change in the ThinkPad T530 is the keyboard. The design and the design have been adjusted. In terms of design, the keyboard is now a chiclet-style interface and the keys are separated by a crossbar. According to Lenovo’s advertising information, this style is called “island style”. The keys in the top row and the arrow keys are flat, but the space bar is convex and curves outward. All other keys are concave and curved inwards. As a result, the fingers tend to hit precisely the centers of the keys. The color of the keyboard has also been modified to some extent. The blue highlighting the special keys, such as the Enter key, has now been replaced by a consistent black and these keys are no longer visible. The keyboard layout has also been revised. Although the Fn and Ctrl keys remain inverted compared to other laptops, the right front area has changed significantly. The Print key replaced the context menu key that has now been completely removed. The PgUp and PgDn keys are now above the left and right arrow keys. The Esc key is now only half, and the Delete key has been moved to the upper right corner. The Ins, End and Pos1 keys are next to the Delete key. The scroll and pause lock keys have also been removed. Unfortunately, there is still no numeric keypad, which would be useful for data entry. The ThinkLight, a small LED light next to the webcam, is available again. A backlit keyboard is also available as an option. The keyboard remains protected against splashes. The TouchPad and the TrackPoint have not been changed since the ThinkPad T510. As a result, the touch panel is no longer of standard size, but is considerably smaller than other current laptops. While it supports multi-finger gestures, the HP EliteBook 8570p has a much larger touchpad in comparison. For the ThinkPad T530 family, you can choose between three 15.6-inch matte displays. The cheapest screen uses a WXGA HD resolution of 1366×768. The two most expensive screens offer full HD 1600×900 HD + and 1920×1080 higher resolutions. The latter has a higher brightness and a wider reproducible color spectrum. Our test sample uses the AU + Optronics B156RW01 1600×900 HD + screen. In the data sheets, Lenovo indicates that the brightness of this screen is 220 cd / m2. We measured an average brightness of 219.9 cd / m2, virtually identical to the published specification. The maximum measured brightness of 230 cd / m2 was found on the right. The darkest measured point of 207 cd / m2 was found in the upper right corner. An overall illumination of 90% has been measured and is well above average. Full brightness is available on the battery.
